Plain pasta for a few days.

So the Denmark region has SO MUCH TO DO. More than we thought. We’ve been exploring as much as we can until we’ve exhausted ourselves and fall into bed early after dinner.

We’ve been very lucky to have had 2 days of bright sunshine and clear skies. There are some resident pelicans at our campgrounds who are super majestic. They apparently follow the fishermen in each morning for a hearty breakfast, they’re all very lovely and very well fed.

Peaceful Bay was a stunner followed by a spur of the moment decision to drop in at Bartholomew’s Meadery. Absolutely amazing place. They make mead out of local honey, we got a bottle as it’s the only thing we can take made of honey over the border with us haha. They also make honey based ice cream on site.

Jon’s been driving a bit more, getting better every day. We did have an unfortunate incident with a kangaroo carcass in which I told Jon to move over a bit to miss it, and he promptly ran straight over it. At least it was already dead and not jumping in front of the car!

That night jon fired up the gas stove, whipped out his knives and using the chorizio we got in Margs and with some help from me created up dinner in a flash. After that huge day it’s needless to say we fell straight asleep.

Next day we went out to the Denmark Animal and Alpaca Farm. OMG. This place is the place of all animal farms. You are allowed in the paddocks to play with most of the animals. Theres alpacas, kangaroos, goats with baby goats everywhere to be seen, sheep, foxes, bunnies, a camel, donkeys, heilan cows, a calf, a jersey cow, a giant pig, and pens with baby alpacas and baby goats. It was amazing! On our way out we met a girl who worked there and we thought she was cuddling a bunny, but it turned out to be a baby goat. It was premature, and they sometimes happen when the mamas have triplets. Sometimes the mum abandons the smallest one. This little girl had been born early that morning and they were warming her up with the sun’s warmth to see if she could get enough strength to such some of the colostrum they milked from the mama. She had even perked up in the time we were talking so they thought that her chances looked pretty great. We never knew but her little tiny hoofs are all jelly like when they’re born and they harden up once their up walking. We felt so so lucky to have seen her just hours old.

We followed on to Greens Pool in Williams Bay, and went along the dirt roads to explore Elephant Rocks and Waterfalls Beach and Madfish Bay. Jon went fishing for a little bit, and I lay in the shade. I tried to go in the water but it was so icy cold it hurt.

We came to the Denmark Farmhouse Cheese, for some lunch before heading back to camp. They have such a great variety of cheese, we got some to bring along with us for lunches etc.

Our camper neighbours were from Adelaide. They’ve just come the opposite way from SA across the nullabour and had so many local suggestions for us. Sometimes the best advice is from locals!

We had planned to leave Denmark but decided to stay a few extra days. Lucky we did as I had somehow contracted viral gastro and stayed put for a few days. Lucky Denmark is a beautiful place to stay!

Much love noodlers.
