Jon and I visited the most amazing place. Well, we’ve visited a lot of amazing places but this one was an unexpected highlight. The Denmark Dinosaur world. They had a few dinosaur skeletons hung up, but the real highlight was the bird avaries out the back were incredible. They had a cockatoo named Sid, who loved to say “scratch, scratch?” before bending right down to let ac his neck. Thhey also had some old corellas who followed us around and at one point one climbed up a fence Jon was dpibg up clamberer right up on Jons shoulder.

They had all sorts of parrots and maccaws both in and out of their cages. We got to pet them, give them scratches, have cuddles and talked to the owner for ages. Jon even got a special snuggle from a little python. It’s safe to say I have left wanting a pet bird one day. I think Jon’s resigned to living in a zoo 🤣.

Jon spent an evening fishing in the river on the side of our campsite – no fishies yet but plenty of nibbles!

We’ve driven to Albany, and spent 4 hours exploring the ANZAC Museum. It was incredible to see everything that is there. It was a huge highlight for Jon whos history was with the Army. Its incredible to see how far the defence has come, and what it used to be like for all the soldiers who were here. It was a stunning day and we kept bumping into lizards around every bend. We even saw a few bunnies!

We ventured to the old whaling station and learnt a lot about how things used to be. There were a couple of blokes about who actually used to work on the whaling ships and their stories were really something else. I had been there when I was little with the family but I hadn’t remembered it being so good. Learning so much about the history an even the mechanics of extracting the oil was incredible. Even Jon learning it from a chefs point of view made it even more interesting.

We stopped into The Gap and The Natural Bridge – again both I had been before but Jon hadn’t, and I hadn’t remembered that they were as good as they were. Some pretty impressive photo opportunities.

We went down to The Blow Holes which unfortunately weren’t blowing, but we got alllllll the way down and got to see some whales in the distance in the bay. Then we had to make our way back up the hill which was horrendous. Its pretty difficult for me to do some of the physical exploring things, for many reasons. Mainly my fitness level has all but dissapeared due to not being so active the last two years. Ive often come to things that i struggle with because I used to be able to do them with ease, and also because I’ve been through much more difficult things. I do however have Jon always supporting me, always being patient with me when I lose my cool, and encouring me. Together we have completed every single difficult activity we’ve started, and it feels great to have achieved them.

We’ve got a huge day planned for tomorrow so hopefully it’ll be as magical as it has been so far.

Xx
